Mohel Register : Transcriptions of "A Mohel's Register (from 1794 to 1815) by Jacob Leveen.

Submitted by Angela Shire with kind permission of University of Southampton Library.

The heading on the manuscript's introductory page to the register reads: "A Mohel's Register (from 1794 to 1815) by Jacob Leveen.

The Southampton Inscription on the reverse of each printed page reads as follows: University of Southampton Library, Archives and Manuscripts Reference: MS  116/126  AJ 312/1  (pages 1-15) (This is then followed by the usual copyright caveats)

The introductory preamble by Jacob Leveen lists certain "surnames" used by the Mohel - but since these are not clearly designated as surnames and appear only as part of the fathers' patronymic, I have not  listed them in the family name column.   For example, Magnus and Harris are almost certainly family names, but Schneider and Dessau, which Leveen also quotes, are very far from certain.   I have, therefore, only listed  those (few) Family names which are clearly designated as such in the manuscript.  As regards to the Additional column: comments in quotes are lifted from the original Ms.  Comments without quotes are observations made by myself.
