Adoption

Unfortunately, adoption searches are basically impossible.

The adoption indexes from 1927 are at The National Archives. There is no resource available to ordinary mortals to link these indexes to original birth certificates.

People spend lots of money buying adoption certificates hoping to find one with the right birth date.

Basic Information on Adoption is a handy leaflet.

Robin's Blog Spot: This link catalogue's one man's struggle to find his own adoption records.

National Children's Adoption Agency: The records of this agency which closed in 1978 are now with Westminster Council. For advice call 020 7641 6301. Those adopted pre 1975 have to have an interview with a counsellor before proceeding.

Much of the information and links on this page was supplied by Pauline-thank you!
