Betholom Row Cemetery, Birmingham: This is a list of 51 people who were buried in Betholom Row Cemetery in Birmingham. According to Harry Levine, in an article in the Birmingham Jewish Recorder entitled, "100 Years of Birmingham Jewry" Part Seven, there were more than 500 people of the Jewish faith buried there. I have been trying to research the names for years as many of my family lived and presumably died in the Birmingham area. I know that some of the graves were transferred to the Witton Cemetery, and I have sent a request there for information on a burial register. I have enquired at the Singer Hill synagogue, but Bernard Gringold told me he thought it had been lost for years. I was lucky to find my gg grandfather and ggg grandmother among the 51. I thought others may want to see this list. The list is in two formats: by number and by surname. Kindly submitted by Paula Listzwan. Borough Synagogue: Taken from the index in the book "The History of Borough Synagogue" by Rev. M Rosenbaum, this list gives the names which appear in the book. The aim is to help members check their names are in the book before travelling to view. This list was generously provided by Angela Shire and retyped by Sherry Landa. Bridgwater Jews: An abstracted list names from an Index to the Bridgwater Advertiser for 1833. Some are definitely Jewish, others possibly. Kindly abstracted by Angela Shire. Broken Hill Cemetery: NSW Australia Database: Database of 21 Jewish graves, all including photos, from Broken Hill Cemetery in NSW, Australia. Photos kindly supplied by Alan Grant. Hambro Marriages: This is an excel database which is downloadable. It contains the details of 263 marriages which took place at Hambro Synagogue between 1797 and 1837. This is the work of Angela Shire. Hartley Library at the University of Southampton: a transcription of the records made available to Jeff Gould. The spread sheet is mostly self explanatory. It contains over 400 records. The records started with what appears to be a burial plan. Then follows the births, marriages and burials. These cover a rather wider area than Jeff had expected. Much of this is a repeat of the work done by Angela but this carries on for a longer period. Hoxton Burials: This excel database has been abstracted from a manuscript held by the University of Southampton who have given permission for publication on B-J. This database is the work of Angela Shire. Hull Aliens: Whilst looking in the Hull files on "Moving Here" http://www.movinghere.org.uk/ for an errant ancestor, Angela Shire jotted down names that were specifically proclaimed as being Jewish or that "looked" as though they might be. The resulting list is, therefore, totally non-scientific and quite haphazard: it may include persons who were not Jewish and exclude some who were. This database is ONLY available in PDF format. JC Naturalisations: This comprises a list of the (mostly) Jewish naturalisations published in the Jewish Chronicle between 1902 and 1906. It was extracted by Ian Melville and supplied with the permission of Ian's partner Beverly Bergman. Jews of South East England This database consists of vital records abstracted from the "Record of Births, Marriages and Deaths in Dover, Deal, Canterbury and Ramsgate 1831 -1870 " Included in this database are Births August 1830 - January 1850; Marriages June 1831 - June 1854: Deaths February 1831 - September 1851. London City 1695 this is a database of Jews living in the city of London was prepared by Angela Shire. Taken from the index of a book called: A Fortress in Anglo-Jewry by B. Homa. Cathy writes: I was interested in it because my great grandfathers are mentioned as they were involved in setting up the Machzike Hadath Synagogue whose history is described in this book. The synagogue was established in the early 1890s by Lithuanian Jews in London. They were in dispute with the established synagogue for the next 40 years but their differences were resolved eventually.
