The Great Synagogue We welcome submissions from listers who have ownership or permission from the owner of material for publication on this site. We are not allowed to publish anything for which we do not hold copyright. When you submit something you need to include a letter of permission. All of these records were kindly submitted by Angela Shire. Great Synagogue Births: Over 300 births registered at the Great Synagogue between 1791 and 1813. This excel file includes a column for extra information. Many records contain references to the Great Synagogue Marriage Registers which Angela has also produced. Great Synagogue Marriages is available in hard copy from Angela (N.B. Angela has found what she thinks may be an error or at least, a transposition, in the transliteration of one of the GS marriages as published in her book. The entry is on page 48 and is referenced GSM 135\18 26 Dec 1810. The Groom is shown as: Solomon Jonas (Zelig b. Lazer Blaz Pinchas b. Eleazer) However, since both of Solomon's sons (Lazarus and Asher Jonas) clearly give their father's Hebrew name as Pinchas, she believes this should actually read: Solomon Jonas (Pinchas Zelig b. on film through the LDS: References are made, in the GS marriage records, to Bevis Marks records. These refer to Volume II of Bevis Marks records. Below is a list of Bevis Marks records and what is covered in the volumes: Volume I is an early history of the congregation up to 1800
Volume II covers 1842 marriages from #1 in the
year 1686 to #1842 on 21 June 1837 (all the dates are according to the Hebrew
calendar)
Volume III covers 1254 marriages from #1 on 16
August 1837 to #1254 on 25 December 1901
Volume IV contains the circumcision register of Isaac and Abraham de Paiba (1715-1775). (transcribed, translated, and edited by R.D. Barnett) ; together with a supplement including a record of circumcisions 1679-99, marriages 1679-89, and some female births 1679-99 (compiled by Miriam Rodrigues-Pereira).
Volume V is the Birth Register 1767-1881;

Jewish births 1707-1763
