HAMBRO MARRIAGE RECORDS 1797-1837 (Sept) Abstracted from LDS Film No. 0094667 Original Transliterations by the late MH of Alexandria Additional research Angela Shire, Editor
This database is provided by the kindness of Angela Shire. Introduction Following the printed publication of 'Great Synagogue Marriages 1791-1850' in 2001 and the issuing of the New Synagogue Birth and Marriage records on CD earlier this year, I had intended to call a halt to my endeavours in this field. However, on hearing of the death of my generous transliterator, I decided, as a final gesture to proceed with her transcripts of the Hambro Synagogue Marriages. These records have now been available for some time in a variety of downloadable formats on the Susser Archive website, run by the indefatigable Frank Gent, for whose untiring work and enthusiasm all Anglo-Jewish Genealogists must be eternally grateful. And, since last summer, the records have also figured, but in a very limited format, in the Supplementary UK database on the JCR-UK website.
At the time of preparation, several pressing commitments seriously curtailed the amount of time I was able to give to this work and it is, therefore, even more imperative that researchers consult the filmed records at LDS Family History Centres or the Archivist of the Beth Din for further verification.
Reference Numbers An individual reference (HSM#) has been allocated to each marriage but, since they are easily identifiable on the LDS film, both by date and by the Groom\Bride's family names, the Synagogue Secretary's page numbering has been omitted.
Phonetic Renditions of Hebrew names These are exactly as submitted by the transliterator and have not been altered, amended or otherwise adapted in order to homogenise with records from other Synagogues previously published by Angela Shire and Frank Gent.
Additional Information Notes preceded by (G) refer to Bridegroom; (B) to Bride.
